Dealing with anxiety in New York can feel constant, like your mind is always racing, always thinking ahead, always trying to prevent something from going wrong. For many immigrant and first-generation adults, this pressure often comes from deeper places: expectations to succeed, support family, make sacrifices worthwhile, and not fall behind.
You may find yourself overthinking decisions, feeling on edge, struggling to relax, or constantly questioning whether you’re doing enough. Even when things seem “fine” on the outside, it can feel like you’re carrying a level of responsibility and pressure that others may not fully understand.
In therapy, we will go beyond simply managing symptoms. Together, we will explore what is driving your anxiety, including cultural expectations, family dynamics, past experiences, and internal beliefs about success, responsibility, and self-worth. I utilize approaches such as CBT, ACT, and EMDR to help you understand your thought patterns, regulate your nervous system, and build a more balanced relationship with stress.
You will learn practical coping and grounding techniques that you can use outside of sessions to feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions. We may also work on areas such as communication skills, boundaries, work stress, self-esteem, and navigating family expectations.
The goal is not to eliminate anxiety completely, but to help you feel more grounded, confident, and able to move through life without feeling overwhelmed by it.
