Coping with depression in New York can feel heavy, isolating, and difficult to explain, especially when you are used to being the strong one. For immigrant and first-generation adults, there is often an unspoken expectation to keep going, stay productive, and not burden others, even when you are struggling internally.
You may feel emotionally drained, unmotivated, disconnected from yourself or others, or unsure of who you are outside of your responsibilities. At the same time, you may experience guilt for slowing down, not meeting expectations, or not feeling 'grateful enough.'
In therapy for depression, we create a space where you can be honest about how you are feeling without judgment. We will explore the underlying experiences contributing to your depression, including cultural and family dynamics, identity, and past experiences that may still be affecting you today.
Using approaches such as CBT for depression, ACT, and EMDR, we will work to shift unhelpful thought patterns, process deeper emotional experiences, and rebuild your sense of self. You will also learn practical strategies through mental health counseling to increase motivation, improve daily functioning, and reconnect with activities and relationships that bring meaning to your life.
We may also address areas such as self-esteem, coping skills, communication, parenting stress, and work-related challenges. Over time, the goal is to help you feel more present, more energized, and more like yourself again.
